eForce Compliance

8.2008- 9.2013

Summary

eForce Compliance was founded in response to replace a very successful but declining operation, Selectronics, and to utilize Selectronics’ logistical and operational assets in the creation of an electronic recycling company located in the Grays Ferry section of Philadelphia.

Partnering with investors looking to capitalize on Selectronics infrastructure located within ten minutes to the downtown district, eForce grew from a vision of providing secure electronic recycling in August 2008 to a vibrant and well-recognized environmental recycling company managing over 20 million square foot of commercial office space in the metro-Philadelphia area. eForce also gained recognition as a leading service provider to over 50 community and non-profit centers by introducing the popular trademarked "Anything with a Plug" collection events.

eForce was recognized for their branding and unique approach to recycling and was one of only eight recyclers nationwide to achieve certifications to the e-Stewards, ISO 14001 and R2 standards.

Awarded PA Market Recycling Center for most innovative Pennsylvania recycler and Philadelphia Top 100 companies by the Wharton School in 2013. Created company mission and vision, internal policies and procedures, and was lead auditor in obtaining critical certifications including R2, e-Stewards and ISO 14001. We sold and delivered material management and recycling services to a wide variety of clients. Clients included leaders in financial services, manufacturing, technology, property management group, civic associations, townships and not-for-profit organizations. Significant contact and client list at the senior most levels of Philadelphia's leading companies.

Lesson Learned

Find a pain point.

The original concept introduced by my partners was to specialize in responsible electronic waste disposal and secure data destruction. That concept proved, after one year of intense solicitation, to be in less demand that originally thought. The market simply did not care about the ramifications of “doing the right thing”. By rebranding the company as a one-stop for all non-traditional materials ( office furniture, light bulbs, batteries, carpeting, etc.) generated in an office environment, we rapidly got the attention of property managers in the metro-Philadelphia area and became the prefered vendor for nearly all Philadelphia commercial buildings.

Guerrilla warfare strategy wins.

At the time of our explosive growth, metallic scrap values exploded and we were faced with several large venture firms entering our market. By establishing a grassroots marketing plan targeted at both the residential and commercial markets, we successfully defended our business and actually expanded operations during this period of increased competition. In about two years our well funded venture firms exited our market.
